Pune is the city of hills and lakes in the state of Maharashtra in the western part of India. If you are in Pune and planning the long weekend, then visit these places to have a serene day amongst nature.
Panshet Dam Backwaters
If you go a little farther from Khadakwasla, there is a little village called Panshet. The backwaters of Panshet dam are so beautiful, that you must spend a night here to see the sunrise. Panshet has an MTDC resort and proper boating facilities at Panshet boating area. Check all about my road trip from Panshet to Lavasa here.
Khadakwasla Dam Backwaters
Khadakwasla Dam is the dam which provides water to the whole of Pune city. It is only 14 km from the city, on Sinhagad Road. This is the most favourite spot among youngsters and families alike. In monsoon, this lake looks even more beautiful. There are various resorts and villas all around the edge of waters. Some of them provide excellent camping grounds and camping facilities.
Pashan Lake
Just 10 km from the main city of Pune is this beautiful lake of Pashan. Pashan is an interesting suburb to Pune. Just take over the left near Pune University at Ganesh Khind Road and go straight. There is a beautiful garden developed around the lake. It is also a good place for birdwatching near Pune.
Pawna Lake
Almost 56 km from Pune city is this piece of a paradise. Perfect place for campers as many many camping resorts provide you with all the necessary equipment and help here. There are hills and water all around and this makes a perfect place for the sunrise and sunset too.
